ACC Basketball Schedules Released

unc:boston

Schedules for the 2013-14 seasons are starting to drip out.

BOSTON COLLEGE EAGLES

Home & Away: Syracuse, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech

Home Only: Florida State, Clemson, Duke, Maryland, Pittsburgh

Away Only: Miami, North Carolina, Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Virginia

Quick Thought: Only gets Duke/North Carolina once, plus Virginia once (a team I think finishes top-four in the ACC next year). I love the Catholic vs. Catholic match up twice a year with Notre Dame.

CLEMSON TIGERS

Home & Away: Florida State, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest

Home Only: Duke, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina State, Virginia

Away Only: Boston College, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia Tech

Quick Thought: Clemson heads back to Chapel Hill to try yet again to end that stunning 55-game losing streak that dates back to 1926. If your streak predates Hitler, you got problems.

DUKE BLUE DEVILS

Home & Away: North Carolina, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Syracuse,

Home Only: Virginia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina State, Virginia, Florida State

Away Only: Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Boston College, Clemson, Miami

Quick Thought: Duke gets the honor of getting road games against all three new teams, thus new venues. The atmosphere in those games, especially the Carrier Dome, should be amazing. Also, love that the ACC decided not to send Duke back to Maryland in the Terrapins last season in the ACC.

FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES

Home & Away: Clemson, Maryland, Miami, Virginia,

Home Only: Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia Tech

Away Only: Boston College, Duke, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest

Quick Thought: The Noles landed a very favorable schedule. They got some good teams coming just to Tallahassee (UNC, Notre Dame, Syracuse), with no return trip. Against their four home-and-home opponents, FSU should be the favorite against three of them.

GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS

Have not released a schedule yet.

Home & Away: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Notre Dame

Home Only: North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Miami

Away Only: Florida State, Maryland, North Carolina State, Syracuse, Wake Forest

Quick Thought: I love the Notre Dame home-and-away. Reminds me of Rudy. The home slate is tougher than the road slate. They will need to pull off some upsets against the likes of North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Virginia.

MARYLAND TERRAPINS

Home & Away: Florida State, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Home Only: Georgia Tech, Miami, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Wake Forest

Away Only: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State

Quick Thought: Clearly, the NCAA is giving Maryland a big middle finger with this schedule. They make The Terrapins have to travel to both Chapel Hill and Durham, but neither UNC or Duke has to go to Maryland.

MIAMI HURRICANES

Home & Away: Florida State, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, North Carolina State

Home Only: Duke, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Boston College

Away Only: Georgia Tech, Clemson, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina

Quick Thought: It’s good to see Syracuse on Miami’s schedule twice. I remember the good old days of Miami/Syracuse football back in the old Big East. Besides that, Duke returns to Coral Gables. Something tells me the Canes won’t be doing any floor slapping that night.

NORTH CAROLINA TAR HEELS

Home & Away: Duke, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Notre Dame

Home Only: Pittsburgh, Boston College, Clemson, Maryland, Miami

Away Only: Florida State, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Quick Thought: Against the new ACC teams, Duke got Syracuse twice, while Carolina landed Notre twice. Time will tell who got the tougher match up. Three of their five away only games could be against NCAA tournament teams.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE WOLFPACK

Home & Away: North Carolina, Wake Forest, Miami, Pittsburgh

Home Only: Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Virginia

Away Only: Clemson, Duke, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia Tech

Quick Thought: The Wolfpack avoid Cameron, that’s the good news. They also have home and away’s with two teams I expect to struggled (Miami, Wake) as much as NC State will.

NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH

Home & Away: Boston College, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Virginia

Home Only: Clemson, Duke, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech

Away Only: Florida State, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, Syracuse, Wake Forest

Quick Thought: Sadly, no rhyme or reason for the home and away scheduling. They don’t get either former Big East school twice. They do get Boston College twice (Catholics, baby!), but I would have loved to have seen a Miami vs Notre Dame home & away.

PITTSBURGH PANTHERS

Home & Away: Clemson, Maryland, North Carolina State, Syracuse,

Home Only: Duke, Florida State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest

Away Only: Boston College, Miami, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Notre Dame

Quick Thought: They get Syracuse twice, so they won’t feel too home sick. Outside of the Orange though, I wouldn’t call their home and away schedule a tough one. They also have three winnable road games against Boston College, Miami and Georgia Tech.

SYRACUSE ORANGE

Home & Away: Boston College, Duke, Miami, Pittsburgh

Home Only: Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame

Away Only: Florida State, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest

Quick Thought: The Orange have the most entertaining schedule of all the ACC teams. First, the heart of the conference will be visiting upstate New York. Duke, North Carolina and NC State all travel to Syracuse. Plus, Notre and Pittsburgh will make the journey. That’s a tough home slate, however, no team has an easier road schedule. The only tough out I see for the Orange is at Virginia.

VIRGINIA CAVALIERS

Home & Away: Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech

Home Only: North Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse

Away Only: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Maryland

Quick Thought: They only get a road game against Duke, which is a tough break, but they also avoid traveling to Chapel Hill and Syracuse.

VIRGINIA TECH HOKIES

Home & Away: Miami, Virginia, Maryland, Boston College

Home Only: Clemson, North Carolina, Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Syracuse

Away Only: Florida State, Georgia Tech, Duke, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame

Quick Thought: This appears to be a pretty favorable schedule for a team trying to rebuild. No home-and-home’s with Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse and Notre Dame…four teams I expect to earn NCAA Tournament bids.

WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS

Home & Away: Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State,

Home Only: Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Syracuse

Away Only: Maryland, Miami, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Quick Thought: Wake gets the unlucky draw of getting both Duke and North Carolina twice. Against a rebuilding Miami and bad Virginia Tech team, they could steal a couple of road wins next year.
