Freshmen Orientation: Manu LeConte
- Updated: July 9, 2013
Name: Manu LeComte
Position: Point Guard
From: Ixelles, Belgium
High School: Dexia-Mons-Hainaut
LeComte is one of eight new faces in Coral Gables this season. The Belgium is a true point guard. A good ball handler, he plays with his head up, looking to find teammates in good spots and seems to often make good decisions. He loves to drive and dish to an outside shooter.
He’s not a superior athlete, but he is quick, especially with the ball in his hands. He is not afraid to score in a variety of ways, whether it be driving inside or putting up a jumper. Let’s just call him a crafty scorer, shall we?
While he’ll need to work on his three-point shot, the biggest concern for LeComte is that he’s extremely undersized.
Listed at 5-11, but that might be a stretch. He might struggle against the thicker, more athletic guards he’ll face in the ACC. Some gym time will certainly help and a nice mid-range jumper certainly wouldn’t hurt.
Right now, LeComte’s playing time will really be determined by the NCAA. If they clear Kansas State transfer Angel Rodriguez, then LeComte will spend time on the pine. The only other true point guard on the roster is Corn Elder, but he is a football player, so there is no telling when he will be available.
However, if A-Rod can’t play and has to sit out a year, the LeComte will have to battle fellow freshman Devon Reed for the starting spot. Reed is listed as a shooting guard, but he’s a combo guard capable of running the point.
