Quick Thoughts:

Sidy Mohamed Djitte didn’t commit until mid-May, which just goes to prove…better late than never. Long and athletic, Djitte’s specialty is on the defensive side of the ball. He’s got a good head on his shoulders, gets good position on the block and is a solid shot blocker.

On the offensive side of the ball, Djitte scored a decent 17 points per game average as a senior. He prefers to face the basket, but is more finesse than strength. He’s got decent ball handling skills and can hit a jumper from as far as 15-feet, but like just about every big man in the country, he’ll need to develop a back to the basket game.

Freshman Outlook:

Coach Brad Brownell is desperate for size inside with the departure of Devin Booker, Milton Jennings and Bernard Sullivan. Besides Djitte, this leaves sophomores Landry Nnkok (one points, 1.4 rebounds per game last season) and Josh Smith (1.1 points, 1.2 rebounds), as well as junior Ibrahim Djambo, a transfer from Three Rivers Community College.

I suspect the Tigers to start off playing small ball, with Jordan Roper/Devin Coleman and two wings Jaron Blossomgame/K.J. McDaniels, along with one big man.

Smith is a wide body and has some developed back to the basket game, while Dnambo probably has the most developed overall offensive game, I still expect Nnoko to start the season at center because of he’s a solid defender, can run the floor and his motor never quits.

This leaves Djitte as the fourth-option. However, Dnambo and Smith are officially listed as power forwards, so if Brownell prefers to go large and start Nnoko with either Smith or Djambo on the front line, this would leave Djitte as the first option at center off the bench.

Either way, with only four players standing over 6-8, Djitte will see plenty of action no matter what, capable of guarding both the four and five spots on the floor.
