Leonard Hamilton Is Sticking Around

The Florida State Seminoles have extended head coach Leonard Hamilton’s contract through the 2016-2017 season.

He joined the Noles in 2002 and since 2005, only North Carolina’s Roy Williams and Duke’s Coach K have won more games than Hamilton.

He’s compiled a 219-143 record (.605) while in Tallahassee. With 25 more victories he’ll pass J.K.Kennedy for most wins by a coach in school history.

He’s won ACC coach of the year twice 2009 and 2012) and led FSU to their first ACC Tournament championship in 2012. He’s crashed the NCAA Tournament four of the last five years.

This is an important extension. Thanks to the expansion to 15 teams, the ACC is suppose to be a great conference.

FSU needs to establish pretty quickly that they belong in the same conversation with the elites of the league.

The 2013 squad does feature plenty of seniors, but the rotation could feature 5-6 underclassmen, so Hamilton will get to earn that contract right away.
