Pittsburgh Loses DeAndre Kane

Does anyone want to come play in the ACC? First, Andrew Wiggins says no to Florida State and North Carolina. Tarik Black passes on Duke. Maryland misses on not just one, but two point guards.

According to CBS Sports, Marshall transfer DeAndre Kane decided the ACC, more specifically Pittsburgh, was not for him. Instead, the 6-4 shooting guard reportedly committed to Iowa State.

This was a huge swing and miss by Jamie Dixon.

Kane is a Pittsburgh native and the Panthers were considered a huge favorite to land him. In fact, after a trip out to USC earlier this month, Kane actually made it seem that he committed to Pitt. He called it, “a perfect situation.”

Yet, after visiting the campus and meeting the coaching staff, Kane was back on the open market.

For Pittsburgh, it really is shaping up to be a rough offseason.

First they lose Steven Adams to the NBA after just one year, then both Trey Zeigler and J.J. Moore exit stage left.

This means that redshirt junior Cameron Wright will be the only true shooting guard on the roster. An excellent defender, Wright is quick and athletic, but he’s not a great scorer, especially from deep. He took only 18 three-point shots last year from three.

They are going after Trevor Lacey, but even if Dixon and his staff can land him, he will have to sit out a year.
